Nurse, midwife killed in ambulance crash

A nurse and midwife on board an ambulance were dead on the spot after vehicle crashed into a big tree in Ocampo, Camarines Sur Sunday morning.

Nurse Janice Eva and midwife Rhodara Labanon were assisting a pregnant patient inside the government ambulance on their way to Naga City when they collided into a tree, pole and concrete toilet along Fuentebella Highway in Barangay Ayugan.

The ambulance is from the rural health unit of Ocampo and is expected to bring a patient to hospital in Naga City.

Dashcam video showed that it was raining and ambulance was driving very fast before it rammed into a tree. Five passengers, including the nurse and midwife, were thrown out of the van and into the rice fields nearby.

Eva and Labanon was dead on the spot while ambulance driver Jose dela Rama and three other passengers, including the pregnant woman, were brought to the Bicol Medical Center for treatment.
